Health Services

Vision coverage is a health benefit that may cover some of your vision care. This may include eye exams and, sometimes, glasses. Your vision provider may provide these services for both adults and children.

Services Available

  • Routine Eye Exam
  • Limited Contact Lens Services

Optical Services

Active duty and retired military personnel are eligible to order military spectacles in the clinic Optical shop during working hours as a walk-in service. Family members are not eligible for this service. Retirees are limited to certain selections and are authorized one frame every 12 months.

Frame of Choice, Standard Issue, Flight Frames, and Gas Mask Inserts

Active duty Army, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard personnel are eligible to participate in the Frame of Choice Program. This program entitles Active Duty military to one pair of civilian-style frames every 12 months at no cost.

Outside prescriptions are filled on a walk-in basis (waiting times may vary).

Limited Contact Lens Services at Rader Clinic

Contact Lens (CL) fitting is not a TRICARE covered benefit; however, the optometrist may opt to update your current CL prescription if time permits.

If you are presently a CL wearer, and you are not having any difficulties with your CLs, the standard procedure is as follows:

Schedule an appointment for a comprehensive eye exam. For the exam, you should bring your glasses and CLs along with your CL information. (Your CL information is on the CL packaging. You can simply bring it with to the exam.) At your first visit, you may be dilated and the optometrist may instruct you to return for a follow-up visit to complete the CL evaluation and update your CL prescription.
